Buell Gonzales Jr. is the newly selected Superintendent/High School Principal for Prairie City School District. A 1993 graduate of Prairie City High School, Gonzales returns to the community with more than two decades of experience in education, athletics, and school leadership throughout Oregon.
Gonzales currently serves as Principal at South Baker Intermediate School in Baker City. He's previously held leadership positions as an Athletic Director, Transportation Director, Vice Principal, and Dean of Students. Throughout his career, he has focused on building positive school culture, strengthening relationships, supporting teachers and students, and developing strong community partnerships. He also just completed his Superintendent Licensure through George Fox University.
In addition to his educational leadership experience, Gonzales has coached multiple sports at the high school level and has been actively involved in statewide athletic leadership through the Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA).
Buell and his wife, Kendra, who is a graduate of Grant Union High School, have two children. Their daughter works as a nurse in Vancouver, Washington, and their son serves as an assistant manager for Les Schwab Tires in Eugene, Oregon.
Gonzales shared that returning to Prairie City to serve the students, staff, and community is both professionally exciting and personally meaningful. He looks forward to building strong relationships, supporting students and staff, and helping Prairie City Schools continue to grow and thrive.
